Old Republic Home Warranty Review

Founded in California in 1974 as Dependable Home Warranty, Old Republic Home Protection was established as a subsidiary of Old Republic International in 1982. In 1992, management restructuring set the groundwork for dramatically positive results in customer service, market share growth and increased profitability. Currently the third largest home warranty company nationwide, Old Republic Home Protection began expanding beyond California in 1995 and now conducts business in numerous states nationwide with new states being added annually. There are many things to think about when purchasing a home warranty through one of the many home warranty companies that are out there for you to choose from. One thing that you ought to remember is the fact that any kind of insurance provider needs to cope with a lot of fraud, so that they have numerous protections set up in order to protect themselves and to act as a roadblock to fraudulent or frivolous complaints. However these guidelines sometimes frustrate home owners with legitimate claims.

The Standard Home Warranty Plan offered by Old Republic provides basic coverage on plumbing, heating and electrical systems as well as appliances including oven/range, water heater, dishwasher, garbage disposal, trash compactor and specialty items such as built-in bathtub whirlpool, and central vacuum systems. Optional coverage is also available, and varies by state. Optional coverage includes swimming pool and/or spa equipment, well pump, roof coverage

Optional Upgrades

Silver Coverage Package

The plan offers coverage including everything in the basic as well as additional appliances and coverage for previously invalid components. This includes dishwasher parts like racks and baskets. Different items that are additionally covered in the plan are clocks, racks, range rotisseries, handles etc. It also offers repair and replacement for air conditioning filters and window units. Shower heads, toilets, shower arms, faucets etc are also covered in the plan. Hard wired or battery operated smoke detectors and ice-makers are other covered items under the Silver Package Upgrade.

Gold Coverage Addition

This plan will include payments for different permits that are required in places where replacing certain item requires them. You will get replacement or repair expenses for heavy equipments like air conditioner or any other heating units like roof-top types. You can receive disposal fees when you haul away any old appliance; provided the item is covered under the plan. The best part about the plan is that you can get repair expenses for any item that has been installed incorrectly or there has been some sort of defect during the contract period.

Pros and Cons

Pros

  • 3rd Largest Nationwide
  • Service calls answered 24/7

Cons

    • Numerous Customer Complaints
    • Reports of Slow/Low Quality Work
    • Eliglible Service Extremely Specific

Once you have comfortably reported your claim, you have to think about the small print in your policy. In case your issue is because of neglect or improper installation, you might be at a complete loss, but when you seem like your claim is legitimate and also you seem like you’re being worked with unfairly or perhaps in anything less than a professional manner, then you do have an alternative choice that lots of individuals don’t even stop to consider.

Lots of people have a general home warranty established on a house when purchased. These warranties can be found by companies specializing in warranties for household home appliances. Home owners might have their refrigerator, range as well as ac system covered through one of these simple warranties. It’s not hard to encounter issues with these warranties though.

Really bad customer service. They charged me for the deductible and “assessment” fee and said that it was a pre-existing condition. They did not explain how they determined this assessment, which confuses me because the equipment was working perfectly a few months earlier.

I have used Old Republic 4 times since our home purchase last year and have not had any problems with the initial contact or the contractors they have sent to the house. I paid the deductible which I already knew about and the work was completed in a timely manner and the technicians gave some good advise for items that I can do to keep the issues from returning.

Recently we placed a AC repair request, first HVAC guy says coil needs to be replaced, no time for him to repair, so the work order goes to another one, second one comes, asked my husband if roof repair done lately, when said yes, he applied the freon leak issue to roof repair, made him to come back again, roof guy also came same time, now the HVAC guy says freon leak is not due to roof repair? Did not give the report to ORHP for 3 days. we are still waiting for AC repair.
Placed a request for microwave tough pad not working 3 weeks ago, no technician showed yet.
