Afton Oaks / River Oaks Known as one of the richest neighborhoods in Houston and home to former President George H.W. Bush and Barbara Bush Afton and River Oaks are located in the center of Houston Texas. Close to Uptown Downtown Houston Afton Oaks and River Oaks are wonderful spots for growing families retirees college students and single adults enjoying the nightlife. There are a vast amount of major employers in the area since Afton and River Oaks are close to The Galleria area Downtown and the Houston Medical Center. You do nt need a Murcielago to live in Afton or River Oaks. Afton Oaks and River Oaks are great communities to look for real estate condos and apartment complexes. There are a number of terrific attractions in the Afton Oaks and River Oaks area. Afton Oaks and River Oaks are near downtown. Greater Uptown Best area in Houston to live in. I happen to work in the Galleria area too so the commute is perfect. The schools are great depending on which schools you are zoned to in the area. However the majority of Houston employers are located in the nearby Galleria area which can cause traffic and congestion at peak travel times during the week. Close to Midtown Downtown Houston Greater Uptown is the perfect spot for singles and young couples. This is one of the best areas of Houston for nightlife and is home to many of the famous bars and clubs. There are a vast amount of major employers in the area since it is close to The Galleria. Neartown / Montrose In central Houston just inside the Loop and North of The Southwest Freeway you will find the trendy area of Neartown. Well known and main streets in the Neartown or Montrose area include West Gray St. Montrose Blvd. The Neartown area is well established and extremely friendly to residents as well as visitors. To the South and East of the Alief area you will find more quality nightlife shopping spots and restaurants due to the closer proximity to Beltway or the Sam Houston Toll road. State Highway Southwest Freeway the Westpark Tollway and the Sam Houston Tollway are a few of these. There are attractions in the Alief area which brings residents from around the city. This area has great amenities and is a short distance from great nightlife. Oak Forest / Garden Oaks Oak Forest is one of the many great neighborhoods in the city of Houston. Oak Forest is a large residential community here. There are a number of fantastic areas near this neighborhood. Garden Oaks is one of the communities in this area. This neighborhood is within close proximity to many of Houston’s major roadways. You will find a number of busy streets in this portion of the neighborhoods. The attractions in this area add to the neighborhoods charm. The TC Jester Park is another great attraction in Oak Forest. There are many great nearby communities to this neighborhood. Meyerland Meyerland sits right along the Loop and is an older established neighborhood. Apartments can be found abundantly and include The Villages at Meyerland which offer all bills paid with rental. The school district here for grade school students is Houston ISD. There are other popular roadways in the Meyerland area. The Meyerland Plaza Shopping Center is one of the areas largest outdoor shopping locations. This area has good subdivisions to choose from as well as shopping and dining choices. University Place One of the quaint locations in the city of Houston is the University Place neighborhood. This is a convenient place to both visit and to live in. Both of these provide residents with quick commutes to the downtown area. Many of the streets that converse University Place also run towards downtown. Here you will find one of the citys popular universities. Rice University is one of the terrific offerings in this area. Citizens from around the state journey to this area each week. There are major hospitals and medical centers in University Place. This is a fantastic area. Lazy Brook / Timbergrove The Lazybrook/Timber Grove area is located just inside the Loop in Northwest Central Houston. The real estate listed in this area is quite affordable compared to other areas of Houston since it is an older area of town with smaller homes. Unless you really need to live next to Loop I would continue searching for a residence in the many other areas of Houston. There are many inviting subdivisions in this area to choose from. You will find great shopping and restaurant offerings in this area. This is one of the busy commercial areas in Houston. Downtown Houston is one of the areas within minutes from of these communities. Nice subdivisions are some of the fine places to live in the Houston area. Spring Branch Central This highly populated Hispanic area provides an easy commute to most regions in North West and Central Houston. Since the Spring Branch area offers convenient access to so many nearby freeways there are many options for dining entertainment and recreation. Real estate in the Spring Branch East area ranges drastically so much depends on the actual street you visit. Spring Branch Medical Center is located in close proximity and a few miles further you will find Memorial Hermann Hospital Memorial City. While the public school system in this area is not the best rated there are many upscale private preschools and grade schools for your child to attend. Whitman The best part is that the prices are way cheaper than the apartment’s right outside Center City. These homes are more spacious for a portion of the price but still give us access to transportation. Many of the homes closer to Oregon Ave are now filled with young professionals from the Navy Yard. The homes are very mixed with some smaller ones for singles and the larger family homes with lawns garages etc. There are also a couple of apartment complexes in the area that provide affordable living options for residents. It’s safe and affordable but it is a largely residential family oriented area. The main shopping areas of Whitman are located along Snyder Avenue. Chestnut Hill In the northwestern part of Philadelphia right above Wissahickon Creek sits Chestnut Hill. If public school is the way for you the School District of Philadelphia zones Chestnut Hill students to a K and a in the area. Chestnut Hill College is the only posthigh school institution in the area. The majority of Chestnut Hill residents are homeowners. Chestnut Hill features two lines on the SEPTA Regional Rail Chestnut Hill East and Chestnut Hill West. LaSalle College and Chestnut Hill College are within the community. A number of private schools call Chestnut Hill home. They include Crefeld School The Chestnut Hill Academy and Springside School. Chestnut Hill is a neighborhood located in Northwest Philadelphia. The area is also home to Chestnut Hill College. Chestnut Hill is one of those neighborhoods. Pennypack Park Pennypack Park is a great park that has a lot to offer. My mom grew up here so Pennypack Park will always have a spot in my heart. It’s located in the Northeast section of Philadelphia and is situated between the Northeast Philadelphia Airport and Pennypack Park. One of the biggest draws of the area is Pennypack Park for which the neighborhood is named. Pennypack Creek runs through the park and eventually leads into the Delaware River. Pennypack Park is acres made up of wetlands woodlands and meadows that are great for walking hiking and just hanging out in. An added bonus point about Pennypack Park is that it’s located across from Fox Chase Farm which is another great place to visit. Bustleton Once a rich farmland area Bustleton is now a middle class residential neighborhood. Bustleton used to be known as a rich farming area. In the twentieth century however the area became a largely residential community with commercial areas on Roosevelt Boulevard Grant Avenue Red Lion Road and Bustleton Avenue. If you drive a few major roadways in the area would be Red Lion Road PA Roosevelt Boulevard U.S. and Bustleton Avenue PA. Bustleton is home to two of the most dangerous intersections in the United States Roosevelt Blvd. at Grant Avenue and at Red Lion Road. There are parochial schools in the area as well. The major commercial sections of Bustleton can be found on Bustleton Avenue Roosevelt Boulevard Grant Avenue and Red Lion Road. Fox Chase Fox Chase is a suburban area in Northeast Philadelphia. Fox Chase Farm is one of the only farms remaining in Philadelphia County. The areas largest employer is the Fox Chase Cancer Center. Public transportation includes the Fox Chase Line for the regional rail. Worldwide this area on the outskirts of Philadelphia is best known for the cancer treatment center The Fox Chase Cancer Center. The origins of Fox Chase however are located in its name. Fox Chase is a neighborhood located in the Northeast section of Philadelphia. There are many large homes located in Fox Chase that are ideal for families with children. Fox Chase offers moderately expensive home prices but it is well worth it. Fox Chase is also home to Fox Chase Farm the only remaining active farm in Philadelphia. Powelton Village Local businesses and chains alike line the street with constant activity from local residents and college students. It was named after the Powels a Welsh colonialist family who owned much of the land in the area during the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries. Many of the shops and galleries in the area participate in Second Fridays. Most of the streets are lined with trees and parking is much easier than a few streets to the south where Drexels campus takes over. Overall Powelton Village is a great place for those attending one of the nearby universities to live if they want to be a little bit further removed from the college atmosphere of University City. It has a large population of younger residents due to its close proximity to Drexel University. Queen Village Just south of Center City Queen Village is a quaint neighborhood bordering Society Hill. Queen Village is also home to young professionals artisans and writers doctors and lawyers as well as families with young children. SEPTA routes and run through the neighborhood. The area has two schools in its bounds. Not necessarily a village fit for a queen this urban neighborhood has experienced a fit of renovation and increasing housing values. His wealth exceeded and was built using both black and white workers. During every festival or concert along the river hoards of people come through the neighbor to get their cars or to access public transportation. Pennsport The area is home to a large Irish American population brought together by the local Pennsport Civic Association. Pennsport has four schools in the area. New Year’s Day brings upon it a wonderful day for a family outing The legendary Mummers Parade. Southwark East is one of the original neighborhoods of Philadelphia. The Mummers prepare to stage their events in this area and after the parades return to Two Street for late night parties. Southwark also known as Pennsport is a neighborhood located in the southeastsection of Philadelphia. Other draws to the area is Washington Square Park and Dickinson Square Park. Over the last few years the area has started to improve with recent renovations of houses and parks as well as the introduction of new smaller businesses and a farmers market. University City At any hour of the day groups of students can be seen walking the streets on their way to or from class or other activities. This neighborhood boasts education. A special line called TheLoop takes students around the area so they can get to classes that aren’t in walking distance. There may be a lot of students due to all the schools but University City is a place that will take your breath away if you’ve never entered it before. Penn has initiated the PennAlexander a primary school for young families with children. Rent varies from place to place but there are always coshares and subleases posted on campus and websites so it is relatively easy to find a place that fits your needs. And watch the potholes they sneak up on you in this area. Fairmount/Art Museum Fairmount is a neighborhood just north of Center City. The Fairmount and Art Museum neighborhoods feature some of the most picturesque streets in Philly with brownstone and tree lined streets. The Fairmount neighborhood is one of the nicest residential sections of Philadelphia with newly renovated row homes. Fairmount is surrounded by amazing architecture like that of the Philadelphia Museum of Art and Eastern State Penitentiary. There is a lot to do around Fairmount as it is close to the Parkway the hub of museums in Philadelphia but there are also small coffee shops and dining establishments throughout the neighborhood. Overall Fairmount is great neighborhood to visit all year round if you can’t afford to live there. Passyunk Square A South Philadelphia neighborhood Passyunk Square is named for Passyunk Avenue which runs diagonally through the city. In Passyunk Square there is shopping and restaurants everywhere. Passyunk Square is home of the great cheese steak battle of Philadelphia. Passyunk Square is a thriving neighborhood in Philadelphia. The two cheesesteak kings can be found on the corner of th Street and Passyunk Ave. Located east of Broad Street between Tasker and Washington Passyunk Square is named for Passyunk Avenue a street that runs diagonally amongst the Philadelphia grid. Passyunk in Philadelphia is a typical urban neighborhood which reminds you of Greenwich Village in New York. Passyunk is a neighborhood located in South Philadelphia. Society Hill Society Hill earns its name this expensive neighborhood bordering Old City is modern day high society. The School District of Philadelphia zones children to two schools one of which is inside Society Hill. In Society Hill the traffic can be very annoying. Society Hill is a lovely neighborhood with an old and new city feel that can put you into a trance. Old world charm abounds with streets of cobblestone and row houses of brick. Society Hill is a pricey neighborhood located in Center City Philadelphia. Society Hill is one of the safer neighborhoods in Philadelphia. If you enjoy a cozy neighborhood that also features the fun of the city Society Hill is perfect for you. East Mount Airy But is a very good area. The area between Septas R and Stenton Avenue is particularly nice. Heading northward East Mount Airy is a neighborhood to the east or right of Germantown Avenue. Divided from West Mount Airy by the avenue known as Germantown East Mount Airy is considered the working class section of the area. It is almost as though it is in competition with the esteemed West Mount Airy. There are groups like East Mount Airy Neighbors which addresses issues and concerns of the area as well as planning events. Mount Airy is near many public and private schools like William Penn Charter School Pennsylvania School for the Deaf as well as colleges and universities like Philadelphia University and La Salle University. All of which can be accessed by car of public transportation. Graduate Hospital This Southwest Center City neighborhood is gentrification at its finest it is a quick tenminute walk from the hustle and bustle of the Rittenhouse shops and restaurants but if you will also find shops restaurants and hidden getaways right in GHo as locals affectionately call it. This is largely because the local Penn Graduate Hospital is within the areas boundaries. Several institutions call the area home including Graduate Hospital Marian Anderson Memorial Home and Park and The Philadelphia Tribune. And the Frederick Douglas Memorial Hospital and Training was established on Lombard Street. As well public transportation is easily accessible. Trendy cafes and bistros have sprung up where the nightclubs once held court. There are a few notable bars in Southwest Center City including Grace Tavern and the Side Car. Point Breeze In recent years however this neighborhood has begun to thrive once again. Transportation is not a problem. Traffic isn’t too much of a problem through the neighborhood but is quite hectic along the edge on Broad Street. However all the time and effort that has been going into making Point Breeze a nice place to live has been well worth it. And really there are a lot of cool things around like Melrose Diner Wharton Park and the Tap Room. There’s really no point in stopping for a visit. East Falls There is one public school several private schools a number of fitness centers day cares and recreation centers in East Falls making the area desirable for families with young children. However you will find more space for your money than you will with the apartments and row homes in Center City. East Falls is a beautiful portion of Philadelphia. The Falls Center holds many dormitories as well as some businesses for Philadelphia University. There is also one public school and two private schools in the East Falls area for schoolage children. It is conveniently located equidistant to Center City and City Line Avenue address to a number of media outlets. Currently the School District of Philadelphia is renovating Mifflin School for million. East Falls is a neighborhood located in the Northwest section of Philadelphia. Holmesburg Holmesburg is one of the oldest neighborhoods in the Northeast. There are plenty of recreational facilities in the vicinity such as the Holmesburg Recreational Center James Ramp Memorial Playground and Pennypack Park. However there is the Holmesburg Shopping Center which includes stores like Family Dollar Rite Aid China Moon Restaurant and Advance Auto Parts. Beverly Being one of the safest communities in Chicago as well as having some of the best schools in the city make it a perfect place to raise a family. Beverly is a visually interesting area of Chicago in part because it has a few hills which is definitely a rarity in the city. Overall the area is largely Irish and it is one of the more affluent areas of the city. Beverly is a traditionally Irish neighborhood on the far south side. But they’re actual neighborhood Irish pubs unlike the McIrish bars that are all over neighborhoods like Lakeview. It is a quaint Irish village within the City. Beverly does not have the housing turnover that some other Chicago neighborhoods have. Beverly and Irish Chicago are pretty much synonymous. It’s a great place to raise a family. The Loop The closest actual residential areas are either north south or west of the loop. The Chicago Symphony Orchestra is in the Loop too. If you re into the hustle and bustle of city life the Loop is the area to find it. The Loop is the nickname given to the heart of the city. This is the heart of Chicago and where the hustle and bustle of the Windy City truly lives. The Loop is likely the best place to feel that you are in the midst of the city skyline architecture towers over you including the Sears Tower FYI much of this area was leveled by s Great Chicago Fire making room for much of what is here today. The Block Party attracts many local residents and local visitors from all over the city. Near North Side The near north side includes the Gold Coast Streeterville and River North neighborhoods. Most local residents do not mind sharing it with the hordes of tourists and travelers. One of the most expensive and sought after neighborhoods in town the Near North Side is without question one of the biggest tourists draws in the city as well as being one of the most fun. Even if shopping is not your thing you must include the Near North in a trip to Chicago. CabriniGreen was once the home of the city’s most renowned housing projects which have since been demolished in attempts at gentrification. Food is incredibly as well. Second City is located here if you have not been to one of their shows go. Forest Glen Another neighborhood is Sauganash a relatively quiet area known for having numerous churches as well as the Forest Glen neighborhood itself. Few areas help outline just how uniquely diverse of a city Chicago is better than a trip to Forest Glen. The average sales price for a three bedroom single-family home in Forest Glen neighborhood is around and the price for a four or five bedroom house ranges between and. Forest Glen is certainly one of the nicest and richest parts of the city. Overall without question Forest Glen is one of the nicest places to live in the city. Compared to the rest of the city Forest Glen is on the up-and-up it’s a VERY stable place where residents are generally either as comfortable as or more comfortable than the rest of Chicago. Marquette Park It is a pretty decent neighborhood working class to middle class. While the neighborhood was once not very safe it has seen significant improvement the last few years. Marquette Park used to be a mostly Eastern European neighborhood one side of my family is from the area and I have some relatives that still live there. First thing to note about Marquette Park is that in the past it was not a particularly safe neighborhood. The other outdoor activity worth mention is the Marquette Park Golf Course. Hopleaf bar is one of the original gastropubs a trend that s really exploded in the city recently. It gets much less crowded there than at the beaches closer to downtown which I refuse to go to. Tri-Taylor TriTaylor is a PERFECT neighborhood right off of Polk Western. This is a great neighborhood for families with kids since there is a grade school and high school in walking distance. We moved into the neighborhood after living in several West Loop lofts for a number of years. Overall we could not have made a better decision to move to TriTaylor the furthest neighborhood still considered part of the Near West Side. This neighborhood is also home to some of the best high schools in the city. All in all I love the neighborhood TriTaylor is the neighborhood near University of Illinois at Chicago in the West Loop. Hyde Park Jackson Park is halfway in the Hyde Park neighborhood. First and foremost Hyde Park is home to The University of Chicago. The University of Chicago Law School is also situated in Hyde Park. Hyde Park is the home of the University of Chicago. Hyde park is an interesting area. Obviously the first thing to mention about Hyde Park is the University of Chicago which is in the neighborhood. Overall I find Hyde Park to be a great neighborhood. Like many urban Chicago neighborhoods Hyde Park has had its ups and downs. In general Hyde Park is still the beautiful neighborhood it used to be. Hyde Park is one of the historic areas in Chicago. Hyde Park is located on the South Side of Chicago. Bucktown Chicago’s trendies have made Bucktown the place to be. A larger neighborhood which encompasses Belmont Heights Irving Woods Schorsch Village and The Villa Dunning is mostly a residential area that has undergone much growth. Visitors to Dunning might be inclined to come here for one of the many restaurants parks golf courses or other points of interest. Also of note are the many eateries which include the famous Elis Cheesecake Factory. Dunning also has shopping and many nice homes or apartments. I love MY street and hope you’ll visit MY neighborhood one day Uptown Uptown may be best known for the music venues. Uptown is THE most diverse neighborhood in all of Chicago. There are escape tunnels and everything. Uptown is a popular North Side neighborhood in Chicago. Also the Uptown area is home to many immigrant neighborhoods such as Little Vietnam and New Chinatown. Home to many of Chicago’s most renowned and historic entertainment venues Uptown is an exciting and vibrant area. Other entertainment hot spots in the Uptown neighborhood include the Aragon Ballroom and the Riviera Theater both of which are popular music venues. You might have heard of Goose Island brewery. Goose Island does indeed have some pretty decent beer. Long ago Goose Island was a place that Irish squatters inhabited. It was known as Goose Island because of the migratory geese that inhabited the island. Goose Island Shrimp House has awesome takeout shrimp dishes maybe the best in the entire city. And since the island is home to breweries you can stop into places like the well named gastropub Goose Island and leave very happy. If you like beer you ll enjoy Goose Island immensely. Goose Island is an actual island located along the north branch of the Chicago River and the North Branch Canal. Its major product BEER Goose Island has become synonymous with the Goose Island Brewery and Pub. Roscoe Village Of course it’s not as good as food far west south and north. But it has some good spots. Turquoise is really great Middle Eastern food. I do not need to leave the neighborhood for good food. But you can go out of RV just a block or two and the next door neighborhoods have good food too. I’ve had a handful of experiences in Roscoe Village and for the most part they have been good. Overall Roscoe Village is very nice. Beat Kitchen has good food and live music almost every day. There are a lot of trendy spots where you can get really good food on Roscoe Street. Another great thing about Roscoe Village is that you can easily find parking usually. By far the most prominent part of the Village is Roscoe Street. Near West Side The United Center area is still more run down and has been somewhat dangerous for a long time. This area has historically been a real hub of activity as it was home to Little Italy Greek Town and lively Maxwell Street. This area has a very distinct feel that you probably won’t find too many other places. No doubt more than one dining excursion to this area is required other area highlights include the Italian American Sports Hall of Fame and the Hull House area. Numerous restaurants line both sides of Halsted Street the center of this area. The Fulton Market district has evolved from a produce market area to a dense residential area of townhomes and high-rises. Bridgeport Bridgeport is a great neighborhood on the south side of Chicago. It is still a mostly Irish neighborhood with some influx of other cultures to give it a diverse feel. Bridgeport is a fairly populated area on the near South Side of Chicago. Historically Bridgeport was a predominately Irish area but today there are large Asian and Hispanic communities as well. If you’re looking for what Chicago is REALLY like look no further than Bridgeport. This neighborhood is a breeding ground for Chicago politicians including both Mayor Daleys. Bridgeport is White Sox territory. U.S. Cellular Field home of the Chicago White Sox is often thought to be geographically located in Bridgeport. For all of the neighborhoods in the City of Chicago I don’t know of any others that offers more than Lincoln Park. You can’t beat Lincoln Park North Center I feel like you could really raise a family there and I know a lot of the younger professional crowd as started to flock there although I wouldn’t say it has that much to hold my interest. Chinatown Chinatown is one of my favorite Chicago Neighborhoods. People move in and stay in Chinatown. Without question most people come to Chinatown for the food. I’d say Chinatown is also one of the safest neighborhoods in the city mainly because it’s such a tourist draw. Overall Chinatown is a great place. However the Chinatown in Chicago stands out as one of the more interesting areas of the entire city. It is most certainly one of the best neighborhoods in Chicago and a must see for anyone in the area. Its rich history and exciting landmarks make Chinatown a favorite for almost all Chicago natives and visitors. Chinatown is simply a one of a kind neighborhood with a charm all its own. Wire nuts then go in to secure all wires. Reinstall the receptacle with screw or spring tops, and finally turn it on so you can test out the new burner. Some jobs do require professional help.
